IOM provides, develops and maintains strategic infrastructures for the national and international scientific communities to study advanced materials, nanostructures, biosystems, sensors and devices.


 

How to apply for access

Large-scale facilities

Laboratories at synchrotron, free-electron laser, and neutron scattering infrastructures that are open to the national and international scientific communities

Synthesis and Nano Fabrication

Facilities to design novel materials with control at the nano- and meso-scale by means of atomic beam deposition, lithographic methods with electrons, ions and X-rays

Analytical Microscopy and Spectroscopy

Laboratories for the advanced characterization of materials and bio-systems by scanning probe and electronic microscopes, and laser light spectroscopies

Theory & Simulation

Computer modeling and HPC that provide fundamental atomic-scale insights at the frontiers of nano science, condensed-matter physics, and biochemistry.

Method development

IOM has a longstanding tradition in developing new methods and instrumentations for research infrastructures, numerical modelling, HPC and data management.

Advanced Instrumentation

IOM designs and develops instrumentation and scientific devices for synchrotron beamlines, neutron scattering end stations, and laboratories operated in ultra high vacuum (UHV) and high vacuum (HV) environments

Theory, Software and Data

IOM develops and employs a large range of methodologies, including molecular dynamics with empirical potentials, first-principles electronic-structure theory, excited-state theories, model Hamiltonians, statistical mechanical models, enhanced-sampling, algorithms for machine-learning and data management
