IOM headquarters are in Trieste, Italy, in the premises of the AREA Science Park and of the Elettra synchrotron.
IOM has secondary branches at the Universities of Perugia, and in Grenoble at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) and at the Institut Laue Langevin (ILL). The theory and simulation groups are located in the secondary branches at the International School of Advanced Studies of Trieste (SISSA) and at the University of Cagliari. The Genova secondary branch is part of a larger support office that provides management, administrative, and technical services to IOM as well as to the NANO and SPIN Institutes of CNR.
